Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Skoolar (“the Service”, “the Platform”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), you (“User”, “you”, or “your”) agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, do not use or access the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Skoolar, LLC. Your continued use of the Service following any amendments constitutes acceptance of those amendments.

2. Description of Service

Skoolar is an educational social platform that connects students, institutions, and organisations globally. The Service enables users to:

  • Create and manage student or institutional profiles
  • Discover and apply for scholarships, internships, fellowships, and other academic opportunities
  • Join and participate in educational communities and study groups
  • Share and consume educational news, resources, and academic content
  • Post and manage academic opportunities (for institutions and organisations)
  • Connect and communicate with other students and educators

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time with or without notice.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to use Skoolar. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 16 years old. If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you may only use the Service with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms.

Users under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the Service. If we become aware that a user is under 16, we will promptly delete their account and any associated personal data.

4. Account Registration & Security

To access most features of the Service, you must register for an account. When registering, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Keep your password confidential and not share it with any third party
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
  • Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account

You may not create an account using a false identity or using another person's name or information. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these requirements.

5. User Conduct

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You must not:

  • Post false, misleading, defamatory, or fraudulent content
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Post content that is discriminatory based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age
  • Share spam, unsolicited messages, or engage in phishing
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other accounts
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service without permission
  • Post or distribute malware, viruses, or any harmful software
  • Impersonate any person or entity, including Skoolar staff
  • Collect or store personal data of other users without their explicit consent
  • Use the Service to post or distribute illegal content of any kind

Violation of these conduct rules may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without notice.

6. Content & Intellectual Property

6.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to the Service (“User Content”). By posting User Content, you grant Skoolar a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to use, reproduce, modify, display, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

6.2 Our Content

All content provided by Skoolar — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, audio clips, and software — is the property of Skoolar, LLC or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission.

6.3 Copyright Infringement

If you believe any content on the Service infringes your copyright, please contact us at skoolardev@gmail.com with the details of the alleged infringement.

7. Opportunities & Third-Party Listings

Skoolar allows institutions and organisations to post opportunities including scholarships, internships, and fellowships. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or legitimacy of any opportunity posted by third parties.

Skoolar is not responsible for any loss or damage arising from your application to or participation in any opportunity listed on the platform. You are encouraged to independently verify any opportunity before applying.

We reserve the right to remove any listing that violates our policies, is fraudulent, or is otherwise inappropriate.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services including, but not limited to:

  • Clerk — for authentication and account management
  • Supabase — for database storage and real-time features
  • Resend — for transactional email delivery

Your use of the Service is also subject to the terms and privacy policies of these third-party providers. Skoolar is not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

9. Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Our Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Skoolar disclaims all warranties including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy or completeness of any content on the platform.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Skoolar, LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill.

In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months prior to the claim, or (b) USD $100.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Skoolar, LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, for any reason, without prior notice. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to, breach of these Terms, fraudulent activity, or conduct harmful to the Service or other users.

You may delete your account at any time by visiting your account settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. Sections that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including intellectual property rights, disclaimers, and limitations of liability.

14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be submitted to binding arbitration in Enugu, Nigeria, in accordance with applicable arbitration rules.

15. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
